SALTON SEA LUNGS
Salton Sea Lungs made by the communities of Thermal Mecca & North Shore. These sets of lungs are currently installed in their temporary home at the North Shore Beach and Yacht Club. Each community spent 5 weeks weaving their respective pair. Now they will hang by the Salton Sea for some months acting as a filter collecting pollutants that are swept up by the wind as the lake continues to dry out. Salt and agricultural runoff that has accumulated over the years are now a source of respiratory issues in this area. The asthma rate of adults in Palm Desert for 2016 was around 4% while rates for adults in Mecca were 20%!
